Huernia tanganyikensis (E. A. Bruce & P. R. O. Bally) L. C. Leach in Bothalia 10 (1): 54 (1969).

E. A. Bruce & P. R. O. Bally in Cact. Succ. J. (U. S.) 13 (11): 179 (1941).

Etymology: Tanganyika Teritory former name for Tanzania - the country of type locality

Distribution: Tanzania (Arusha, Kilimanjaro).

History: The plant was first discovered by a well known botanist P. R. O. Bally at foothills of Longido Mountain in 1939. It was described as Duvalia tanganyikensis by E. A. Bruce and P. R. O. Bally in 1941. Larry Leach transfered it together with D. procumbens and D. andreaeana to the genus Huernia in 1969.
