History: Huernia rubra was first collected by Darrel Plowes and Jerry Barad in November 1989, during a trip to North Yemen. They found it at two localities south of Taizz. Darrel Plowes published the plant in 1995. Peter Bruyns pointed out to include it in H. hadhramautica (2005).
