History: John Lavranos found the plant in 1960 in Bauchi, Nigeria and decribed it as Huernia nigeriana 1961. In 1964 he transfered it as a variation in H. volkartii. Larry Leach found relationship with H. lodarensis complex more than with H. volkartii and placed it back to the species level (1976). Peter Bruyns pointed out to include it in H. lodarensis (2005).
