History: On January, 2000 Tom McCoy, well known collector and researcher of succulent flora from Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, took a trip to rarely visited Jabal Raymah mountains in Yemen. He collected unknown Huernia species on January 29 at the altitude of 1130 meters. It flowered next year in Riyadh. Darrel Plowes descriped it as Huernia mccoyi on 2003.
