Basionim:

Stapelia humilis

Masson in Stap. Nov.: 10, t. 5 (1796).

Synonim:

Huernia simplex

Etymology: humilis (Lat.) - small, growing near the ground.

Distribution: South Africa (Western Cape, Northern Cape, Eastern Cape) - Great Karoo.

History: The plant was first collected by Francis Masson. He published it as Stapelia humilis in 1796. Adrian Haworth transfered it to the genus Huernia in 1812.

H. thudichumii was included in H. humilis by Peter Bruyns (2005).
