Huernia bayeri Leach in Excelsa Taxon. Ser. 4: 187 (1988).
Etymology: Bruce Bayer (curator of the Karoo Botanical Garden)
Distribution: South Africa (Eastern Cape, Western Cape).
History: Huernia bayeri was described by Larry Leach in 1988. He found that it was closely related to Huernia primulina. In his collecton (Leach & Bayliss 15677a, b and c) from the same location were both of them. Peter Bruyns transfered H. bayeri together with H. primulina and H. brevirostris to H. thuretii (2005).
