Etymology: Phillip Gerald Archer - the finder of the plant.

Distribution: SE Kenya (Kilifi, Kwale, Tana River).

History: The plant was first discovered by a well known botanical collector P. G. Archer at the western end of Kilifi creek in Kenya in 1976. The living material was cultivated in Nairobi. Larry Leach got a cutting at National Herbarium in Zimbabwe and published it as new species (1988).
